The United States was not surprised that Xi Jinping secured a precedent-breaking third five-year presidential term on Friday, White House spokesmanb John Kirby said.

Xi's new term was "highly expected," Kirby told reporters. "What I can tell you is that the president (Joe Biden) is focused on managing the strategic competition with China. He believes, as I've said before, that we're well poised to succeed in that kind of a competition."
