Turkey's Erdogan: courts' dispute shows need for new constitution

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that the need for a new constitution was evident given the current constitution was inadequate to solve a brewing power dispute between two top courts. "The solution to the power dispute lies in the constitution, but our current constitution is inadequate in this regard," Erdogan told a ceremony in Ankara. "The need for a new constitution is evident. It's apparent that it's a vital issue and not a subject of daily politics," he added, nodding to his longstanding position that parliament should usher in a new constitution. Earlier on Friday, Erdogan sided with the Court of Cassation in an ongoing dispute with the Constitutional Court.
