U.S. President Joe Biden thanked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a call on Thursday for extending 50 billion euros ($54 billion) in new aid to Ukraine, the White House told reporters.
White House spokesman John Kirby added the European Union's support is "not a substitute for American leadership" as the administration continues to press Congress for additional aid for Kyiv.
