Sweden's parliament voted down a budget put forward by the centre-left caretaker coalition on Wednesday, instead adopting an opposition finance bill that includes 20 billion crowns ($2.20 billion) in tax cuts.

The Moderate and Christian Democrats' budget proposal garnered 153 votes in the 349-seat parliament against 141 for the Social Democrat and Green coalition's finance bill.

Sweden has been without a new government since September's election and the budget vote does little to clarify the situation, with neither the centre-left nor the centre-right bloc able to build a majority government.
