Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed the officials Sunday to start the process of formation of two new districts -- Mulugu and Narayanpet -- as per his election promise. Rao instructed Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajeshwar Tiwari to take the necessary steps after holding a review meeting on Panchayat Raj and the promises made by his party ahead of the recent assembly elections. With this, the process of the formation of new districts commences, an official release said.

Telangana currently has 31 districts. The chief minister also told the officials to initiate the process of formation of Korutla revenue division and Ghattuppal Mandal in Nalgonda district and Mallampally manual in Bhupalapally district. He also suggested that the existing Gundala manual in Jangoan district should be merged into Yadadri Bhuvangiri district, the release said. Village secretaries should be appointed in each and every Gram Panchayat in the state, the chief minister said. There are 12,751Gram Panchayats in the state.

The recruitment process of 9,355 village secretaries has been completed, and the chief minister has signed the file pertaining to issuing instructions to district collectors to issue appointment orders, the release said. Rao also instructed the officials that the Bathukamma (floral festival) schemesarees should be distributed to women from December 19 along with the distribution of clothes on the occasion of Christmas. After the announcement of December 7 Assembly elections in the state, the Election Commission had not allowed distribution of sarees.

Rao also said that cheques under the Kalyana Laxmi and Shadi Mubarak schemes should henceforth be distributed by the MLAs, as was done prior to the model code coming into force. In view of the model code of conduct, the cheques were being distributed by district collectors. Under these schemes, the government provides financial assistance for marriage of girls from poor families.
