Reacting to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's remarks that "CBI, ED should be shut down," Former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday asserted that "misuse" of central agencies and "dictatorship which hijacks" the system and destroys the institutions should be stopped. "The misuse of central agencies, a dictatorship which hijacks the system and destroys the institutions should be stopped. Everything should be fair," he said.
In an interview with the newspaper, the Samajwadi Party chief said the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation are not required and should be shut down. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said he would propose it to the Opposition's INDIA bloc. "CBI aur ED band hone chahiye (the CBI and ED should be shut)... If you have cheated, there is the Income Tax department to deal with it. Why do you need the CBI? Every state has an anti-corruption department, use it if needed," he added.
The Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are being held in seven phases and the first four phases have been completed. The voting on the remaining Lok Sabha seats will be held on May 20, May 25, and June 1. The counting of votes will be done on June 4.
Being the largest state in India by population, Uttar Pradesh commands the highest number of Lok Sabha seats, which is 80. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demonstrated a solid majority in UP in the previous two Lok Sabha elections, gaining the majority of seats.
Earlier in the 2019 elections, proving all the arithmetic of the SP-BSP 'mahagatbandhan' in Uttar Pradesh wrong, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal(S) won 64 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats. The alliance partners, Akhilesh Yadav's party and Mayawati Party's, won 15 seats.(ANI)
