On Saturday, the CPI(M) launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing it of assisting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in alleged electoral malpractices during the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal. The accusations stem from the nine constituencies that went to polls, with Diamond Harbour being a focal point of contention.
Mohammad Salim, the CPI(M) West Bengal state secretary, called the polling in Diamond Harbour, where TMC's Abhishek Banerjee seeks a third term, a 'farce.' Addressing a press conference at the CPI(M) headquarters, Salim asserted that the BJP had 'taken TMC on its lap' during the elections, while the Left-Congress alliance fought hard against TMC.
He demanded the elections in Diamond Harbour be countermanded due to alleged malpractices and claimed that the administration and the Election Commission failed to ensure free and fair polling. Salim also reported incidents of intimidation and large-scale proxy voting in various constituencies, including Jadavpur, Basirhat, Kolkata Dakshin, and Kolkata Uttar.
