SKM Calls for Unity, Assures Peace Post Sikkim Elections

Following allegations of fleeing SDF members fearing post-poll violence, SKM reassured peace and security. SKM, having won 31 out of 32 assembly seats, urged SDF leaders to remain in the state. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang instructed party workers to abstain from violence, promising stability and harmony in Sikkim.

In response to claims that demoralised SDF leaders and workers were fleeing Sikkim after their assembly poll defeat, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Monday made a plea for calm, assuring that peace and security would be maintained for all.

The SKM, which secured 31 of the 32 assembly seats as announced on Sunday, addressed the displaced SDF members and leaders with a clear message. Despite their defeat, with SDF winning only one seat and party chief Pawan Kumar Chamling losing both seats he contested, SKM urged the opposition to stay put. 'Dear esteemed leaders and supporters of the SDF party, we have come to learn that many of you have left Sikkim fearing potential attacks,' said SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling.

Khaling emphasized that the SKM, once a victim of similar violence, understands the pain caused by such actions and fundamentally opposes any form of violence. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has ordered party members to refrain from anti-social activities, reaffirming the party's commitment to peace and harmony.

Encouraging SDF workers and leaders to return, Khaling stressed the importance of the opposition's role in public engagement and welfare. Meanwhile, SDF leaders were unavailable for comment.
