BJP Faces Unexpected Setbacks in Hindi Heartland States

Unexpected setbacks are challenging the BJP in critical Hindi heartland states, according to early voting trends released by the Election Commission.

In the fiercely contested state of Uttar Pradesh, which contributes 80 MPs to the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP finds itself in a close race with the Samajwadi Party. As of 11.05 am, the BJP led in 35 seats, while the Samajwadi Party took the lead in 34, with the opposition alliance holding an edge in 42 seats.

The BJP had previously dominated Uttar Pradesh in 2019, winning 62 seats compared to the Samajwadi Party's five. However, early trends suggest this stronghold might be wavering.

In Haryana, the BJP is trailing behind Congress, with seat leads of four and six, respectively. In Rajasthan, the BJP is ahead in 14 seats compared to the Congress's eight. In these states, the BJP had secured all seats it contested in 2019.

On the other hand, the BJP-JD(U)-LJP(R) alliance in Bihar appears to hold its ground, leading in 31 of the 40 seats. They had won 39 seats back in 2019. Nevertheless, Uttar Pradesh remains a significant concern for the BJP, with the state showing unexpected shifts.

It is worth noting that these figures are based on early trends and might alter as more votes are tallied.
