SAD Faces Uphill Battle: Harsimrat Kaur Badal Leads In Bathinda

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) encountered significant challenges in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, struggling to secure leads in Punjab. For the first time since 1996, SAD went solo, but managed to lead in only one of the 13 parliamentary constituencies.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the wife of SDA chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, is poised to retain the Bathinda parliamentary constituency, leading by a margin of 50,000 votes over her AAP rival, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian.

The Bathinda constituency remains a stronghold for SAD, with Harsimrat winning since 2009. This election serves as a litmus test for SAD as it tries to regain political traction after parting ways with BJP in 2020 over the farm laws.
