Tapir Gao, the outspoken two-time Lok Sabha member from Arunachal East, continues to be a prominent figure despite facing criticism for his candidness. Gao, who defeated his nearest rival Bosiram Siram by 30,421 votes, remains a popular leader.
Born on October 1, 1964, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district, Gao has a Master’s Degree in political science. Before his political career, he was deeply involved in community development, providing a robust foundation for his political journey.
Gao first made waves in state politics by winning the 2004 Lok Sabha election against Congress’ Wangcha Rajkumar. Although he lost the seat in 2009 and 2014, his loyalty to the BJP never wavered. Gao staged a remarkable comeback in 2019, defeating Congress’ Lowangcha Wanglat to secure a seat in the Lok Sabha for the second time.
Known for his outspokenness, Gao hasn’t hesitated to criticize his party in Parliament. In September 2020, he raised concerns about alleged Chinese incursions in Arunachal Pradesh, specifically highlighting the activities in Chaglagam, Anjaw district, Dibang Valley, and Upper Subansiri district.
