In a significant political turn, CPI(M)'s state secretary Mohammed Salim is trailing behind Trinamool Congress' Abu Taher Khan by more than 1.56 lakh votes in Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency, as reported by the Election Commission.
The CPI(M)-led Left Front, which failed to secure any seats in the 2019 general elections in West Bengal, had pinned its hopes on Salim to reverse their fortunes this election cycle.
Despite Salim's previous wins in Lok Sabha elections, TMC's Khan is leading by a formidable margin of 1,59,393 votes, making the challenge increasingly insurmountable for the veteran leader.
