Union MSME minister Narayan Rane has achieved a historic victory, seizing the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency from the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray in a high-stakes contest.

Rane triumphed over his main rival, two-term MP Vinayak Raut, by a margin of 47,858 votes in his debut election for the Lok Sabha.

The former Shivsainik and ex-chief minister of Maharashtra garnered 4,48,514 votes, while Raut secured 4,00,656 votes. This marks the first occasion that the BJP has secured a Parliamentary seat in the coastal Konkan region, a traditional bastion of the Shiv Sena.

Notably, this was the first Lok Sabha election without the 'bow and arrow' symbol of the undivided Shiv Sena, following the party's split in June 2022. The Shiv Sena (UBT) contested this election using the 'flaming torch' symbol.

In addition to the main candidates, the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency saw Independent candidate Vinayak Raut receiving 15,826 votes, Maruti Joshi of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi securing 10,039, and BSP's Aayare Lahu obtaining 7,856 votes. The NOTA option accounted for 11,643 votes.
