Defying all exit-poll predictions, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has surged ahead in 29 of West Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats, dealing a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) target of securing 35 seats as they just managed to reach double digits.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fervent campaign, the BJP fell short, leading in only 12 seats as per the EC website. The TMC, under Mamata Banerjee, successfully countered the BJP's high-stakes campaign despite corruption allegations and internal conflicts.

Analysts point to the BJP's ambitious target of 35 seats and their reliance on strategies like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Hindu polarization, which fell flat. Internal divisions and organizational weaknesses within the BJP further contributed to their underwhelming performance.

The TMC, however, saw its vote share rise to 47%, leading to their increased tally compared to the last polls. Welfare schemes targeting women and tactical moves following the breakdown of seat-sharing talks with Congress helped the TMC consolidate anti-BJP votes.
