The BJP faces a considerable setback in Uttar Pradesh, as its seat count in the Lok Sabha elections shrinks from 62 in 2019 to just 33. The defeat spans all regions, despite the party's aggressive campaign.
The 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP are distributed across six regions: Western Uttar Pradesh, Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, Awadh, Braj, and Rohilkhand. In Western UP, BJP won only four out of ten seats, down from six.
Awadh, with 20 seats, saw BJP's count drop to nine. Major upsets included defeats for Maneka Gandhi and Smriti Irani. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's margin in Varanasi also reduced significantly. The party promised a review, while SP's Rajpal Kashyap viewed it as a people's mandate.
