The Congress Party has once again demonstrated its stronghold in Punjab's politically significant Malwa region by winning four critical Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general elections. According to the Election Commission data, the Congress successfully clinched seats in Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala.
The wins from Ludhiana and Patiala are particularly noteworthy as Congress retained these seats against BJP candidates Ravneet Singh Bittu and Preneet Kaur, former Congress members. The Malwa region, which encompasses eight parliamentary seats, remains a pivotal battleground in Punjab politics.
While the AAP won two seats—Anandpur Sahib and Sangrur—and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) secured Bathinda, an Independent candidate triumphed in Faridkot. In total, the 2024 polls saw Congress winning seven of Punjab's 13 Lok Sabha seats, leaving AAP with three, SAD with one, and two for Independents, while the BJP failed to secure any seat in the state.
