Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant has sharply criticized Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar, suggesting that people are eagerly awaiting his political retirement. Shelar had previously declared that he would retire if the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) secured at least 18 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

On Wednesday, Sawant, who has retained the Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat for the third time, accused Shelar and his colleagues of exhibiting blatant arrogance. The MVA, an alliance comprising the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), managed to win 30 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

The ruling Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the NCP faction led by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, secured 17 seats, while an independent candidate took one seat. Sawant told reporters in Delhi that people are anticipating Shelar's promised retirement after the BJP lost key Mumbai constituencies, with Union Minister Piyush Goyal being their sole victor from Mumbai North.
