In a significant political development, at least 10 assembly segments in West Bengal are poised for bypolls by year-end, following vacancies created by MLAs who either clinched positions in the Lok Sabha elections or resigned and failed in their subsequent attempts. Officials confirmed the forthcoming electoral contests.

A particular seat, stalled since 2022 due to legal challenges, is now cleared for elections after the petitioner withdrew his case. According to The Representation of the People Act, 1951, elections for vacant seats must be conducted within six months of occurrence.

Scheduled state assembly polls for all 292 seats are on track for 2026. Notably, the His ruling party MLAs who shifted to parliamentary positions include TMC's June Maliah, Jagadish Chandra Basunia, Arup Chakraborty, and Partha Bhowmik.
