Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a former Union Minister, has drawn the curtains on his 18-year-long public service career following a close defeat in the 2024 general elections. Chandrasekhar lost to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat after a neck-and-neck fight.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media platform X, Chandrasekhar expressed his regret over not ending his career on a winning note. He also highlighted the privilege of serving with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's team for three years.

'Today, curtains down on my 18-year stint in public service, of which three years I had the privilege to serve with PM @narendramodi ji's TeamModi2.0,' he wrote. Despite the defeat, Chandrasekhar extended his gratitude towards colleagues, supporters, and the 'karyakartas' who inspired him. He affirmed his continued support and work within the BJP.
