Durga Das Uikey: From Teaching to Triumph

Durga Das Uikey, who recently won the Betul (ST) Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh, has been sworn in as a minister of state in Narendra Modi's government. Uikey, a former teacher, secured his second consecutive term by defeating Congress candidate Ramu Tekam with a significant margin of 3.79 lakh votes.

Durga Das Uikey, the newly-elected representative from Betul (ST) Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh, has taken oath as a minister of state in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The 58-year-old marks his second consecutive term representing Betul, defeating Congress opponent Ramu Tekam by a remarkable 3.79 lakh votes in the 2024 elections.

Before entering the political arena, Uikey dedicated his career to teaching in state tribal welfare department schools, transitioning to politics with a Lok Sabha ticket in 2019.

His victory and subsequent induction into the ministerial cabinet highlight a significant political trajectory from education to esteemed leadership.
