Savitri Thakur, who recently secured victory from Dhar (Scheduled Tribe reserved) seat in the general elections, has been sworn in as a minister of state within the Narendra Modi administration. Thakur, 46, stands as a notable female tribal leader within the BJP in Madhya Pradesh.
Having clinched the Lok Sabha seat in 2014, she faced denial of a ticket in the 2019 polls. However, Thakur made a strong comeback in the 2024 elections, securing a win over Congress' Radheshyam Muvel by an impressive margin of 2.18 lakh votes.
Thakur's political journey began with her election as a district panchayat member in 2003, subsequently ascending to its president. Throughout her career, she has held multiple party positions at both state and national levels, culminating in her 2014 Lok Sabha candidacy.
