On Sunday, ten members from Uttar Pradesh were integrated into the Union Council of Ministers of the BJP-led NDA government, with caste balance playing a significant role in the selection.
The Modi 3.0 Government has included five from the backward classes, two Dalits, and three from forward castes in ministerial positions.
This new ministerial lineup comes after the NDA faced considerable losses in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. Conversely, the INDIA bloc made significant gains, with the Samajwadi Party attributing its success to the 'Pichhra (backward), Dalit, Alpsankhyak (minorities)' or 'PDA' formula.
Among the newly appointed, five members belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) from UP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The list comprises Jayant Chaudhary (Jat), Pankaj Chaudhary (Kurmi), Anupriya Patel (Kurmi), and BL Verma (Lodh). From the Dalit community, Kamlesh Paswan (Pasi) and SP Baghel (Dhangar) have been included.
Additionally, three leaders from the upper castes have been given positions: Rajnath Singh and Minister of State Kirtivardhan Singh from the Kshatriya community, and Minister of State Jitin Prasada from the Brahmin community.
Despite the appointment of Jayant Chaudhary as Minister of State with independent charge and Anupriya Patel's reappointment, some BJP allies in UP faced setbacks. The SBSP and NISHAD parties, led by Om Prakash Rajbhar and Sanjay Nishad respectively, failed to secure any ministerial positions due to their electoral defeats.
Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, the BJP won 33, RLD took two, and Apna Dal (S) claimed one. The Samajwadi Party won 37 seats, while Congress secured six. Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad won the Nagina seat, and the BSP didn't win any seats.
