In a commendatory note, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa extolled Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his enduring dedication to the Indian populace as he triumphed in a historic third consecutive election.

Ramaphosa extended his congratulations to the citizens of India for actively participating in the democratic process, which unfolded in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. The South African leader reaffirmed the strategic alliance between the two nations, emphasizing continued cooperation in fostering the agenda of the Global South and the reform of the global governance system.

He highlighted the seamless collaboration between South Africa and India in platforms like the G20 and BRICS, recalling Modi's warm reception at the Johannesburg BRICS Summit in August. Ramaphosa’s message arrived in the wake of South Africa’s recent elections, revealing a significant shift as the African National Congress lost its majority for the first time since 1994. The ANC garnered only 40 percent of the vote, prompting Ramaphosa to initiate negotiations for a government of national unity, foregoing traditional coalition agreements.
