Mingma Norbu Sherpa Elected Speaker of Sikkim Assembly

Mingma Norbu Sherpa has been unanimously elected as the speaker of the Sikkim assembly. Alongside, Raj Kumari Thapa has been elected as the deputy speaker. The elections occurred under the supervision of pro-tem speaker Sanjeet Kharel, with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang leading the oath-taking ceremony for all members.

In a significant political development, SKM MLA Mingma Norbu Sherpa was unanimously elected as the speaker of the Sikkim assembly on Wednesday.

Simultaneously, Raj Kumari Thapa secured her position as the deputy speaker. The elections, overseen by pro-tem speaker Sanjeet Kharel, saw all members vote in favor of the proposed candidates.

Mingma Norbu Sherpa, a two-term MLA from Daramdin and a former minister, assumed his new role and immediately proposed Thapa as deputy speaker, a move unanimously approved by the House. Thapa is a two-term MLA from Rangang-Yangang. Pro-tem speaker Kharel also administered the oath of office to all 31 members, including Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who represents two constituencies.
