Omar Abdullah Criticizes Election Postponement Suggestion Amid Jammu Tensions

Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, condemned the idea of postponing Jammu and Kashmir's assembly elections following recent extremist attacks. Criticizing former Army Chief Gen V P Malik, Abdullah argued it would be a shameful concession, especially given past occurrences of elections during crises in the region.

Omar Abdullah, a prominent leader of the National Conference, voiced strong disapproval on Wednesday over the potential postponement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. This reaction comes in light of recent extremist attacks in the Jammu region.

Abdullah's remarks were a direct response to a suggestion from former Army Chief General (retired) V P Malik, who recommended delaying the elections by a year, citing increased risks from militant forces.

Highlighting past precedents, Abdullah remarked, 'It is disappointing to see such recommendations, especially from those who witnessed Lok Sabha polls post the Kargil War in 1999. Succumbing to these militant threats undermines the commitments made by the PM, HM, and Election Commission.'
