The maiden session of the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced on Friday, featuring the swearing-in of 172 newly-elected legislators.
Pro-tem Speaker and TDP legislator G Butchaiah Chowdary administered the oath to the MLAs.
After the ceremony, the House was adjourned to 10:30 am on Saturday.
However, the election for Speaker and Deputy Speaker did not occur during the session, according to official sources.
TDP leader Nara Lokesh, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, and others nominated TDP’s Narsipatnam MLA C Ayyannapatrudu for the Speaker’s post.
The proceedings began at 9:45 am in the Assembly Hall at Velagapudi, Amravati, with CM N Chandrababu Naidu making his first assembly appearance in over two years.
Naidu had vowed in 2021 not to return to the assembly until he became the Chief Minister again, protesting against alleged remarks by YSRCP leaders.
Actor-Politician Pawan Kalyan attended the session as the Pithapuram MLA and Deputy Chief Minister, marking his first entry into the House in his 16-year political career.
CM Chandrababu Naidu took the oath first, followed by Deputy CM Kalyan and the other MLAs, including YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The NDA alliance dominated the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, securing 164 out of 175 seats.
