The BJP and its allies have initiated consultations regarding their candidate for the crucial Lok Sabha Speaker position. This move comes as the opposition INDIA bloc considers mounting a challenge, sources reported on Monday. The nominations for the key role are set to begin tomorrow.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which commands a clear majority in the Lok Sabha, remains tight-lipped about its candidate selection. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Union Minister K Rammohan Naidu indicated that a decision is forthcoming but noted that no final choice has been shared with them so far.

In a statement marked by caution, a representative from another BJP ally confirmed the ongoing consultations while remaining mum on specifics. Meanwhile, opposition leaders argue that a contest may ensue if the NDA doesn't foster a consensus-driven approach for the Speaker candidate.
