The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday expressed disappointment over not being consulted about the Opposition's decision to field Congress MP K Suresh as the INDIA bloc's joint candidate for Lok Sabha Speaker.
As K Suresh officially filed his nomination, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee stated his party had not been contacted regarding the decision. 'No one contacted us, and there have been no talks. Unfortunately, this has been a unilateral decision,' Banerjee remarked.
TMC's leadership, including Mamata Banerjee, will make the final decision, added Abhishek Banerjee. Meanwhile, a brief exchange between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Abhishek Banerjee inside the Lok Sabha did little to clarify the issue. Suresh, who has served seven terms in the Lok Sabha, is up against the BJP's Om Birla for the Speaker position.
