In a significant political development, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday extended an olive branch to his predecessor, Imran Khan, offering to initiate dialogue amidst his ongoing incarceration. Khan, a former cricketer and the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August of last year, facing numerous legal battles.

Addressing the National Assembly, Sharif emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort for the country's progress. 'If their [PTI] founder is facing troubles [in jail], then I reiterate: come, let's sit down and talk,' Sharif said. He stressed that dialogue is the only path forward for national betterment.

The animosity between Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Khan's PTI has intensified since the February 2018 elections. While Sharif recounted his own hardships during Khan's tenure, the opposition leader Omar Ayub stated PTI's condition for dialogue, demanding the release of imprisoned party leaders and workers.
