In a significant political move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his approval on Wednesday when Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla read out a resolution condemning the 1975 Emergency. According to Adityanath, the Congress 'throttled' democracy 50 years ago by imposing the Emergency.

Om Birla's resolution, read soon after his election as Speaker, condemned the 1975 Emergency as a constitutional attack, triggering vocal protests from Congress members in the Lok Sabha. The resolution highlighted that opposition leaders were jailed, media was restricted, and judiciary autonomy was curbed during that period.

Addressing reporters at his official residence, Adityanath stated that the Congress' core values have not changed over the years. He further mentioned that Congress governments have made 75 amendments to the Constitution and dismissed democratically elected governments 90 times since independence.
