BJP Criticizes Rahul Gandhi During Lok Sabha Protest

The BJP claimed that key members of the opposition INDIA bloc did not join Congress' protest in the Lok Sabha against a resolution condemning the 1975 Emergency by Indira Gandhi. Speaker Om Birla's resolution sparked a government-opposition face-off, with Rahul Gandhi seemingly torn on how to respond.

In a pointed critique of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday remarked that key allies of the opposition INDIA bloc did not support Congress’ protest in the Lok Sabha against a resolution introduced by Speaker Om Birla. The resolution condemned the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi's government in 1975.

Following his election as Lok Sabha Speaker, Birla read the resolution, which described the Emergency as a grave constitutional assault by the then prime minister, Indira Gandhi. This led to a heated exchange between government and opposition members during the session.

BJP spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra detailed the scene, highlighting Rahul Gandhi’s indecision as members from Samajwadi Party (SP), DMK, and TMC abstained from joining Congress’ protest. Patra thanked these parties for their sensitivity in observing a moment of silence for those who suffered during the Emergency.
