Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, paid a visit to Hathras on Friday to console the families of those who lost their lives in a tragic stampede. According to Congress leaders, Gandhi embarked on his journey early morning from Delhi by road, accompanied by key party figures including state Congress chief Ajay Rai, state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, and party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
Gandhi reached Pilakhna village in Aligarh around 7:15 am before proceeding to meet the families of stampede victims in Hathras’s Vibhav Nagar area. The tragic event claimed 121 lives, with 17 victims from Aligarh and 19 from Hathras, as per police reports.
During his visit, Gandhi emphasized the need for accountability and reiterated the Congress party's demand for compensation—a sum of Rs 1 crore for the families of the deceased and Rs 25 lakh for the injured. The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a judicial probe, headed by a retired High Court judge, to investigate the incident, including any possible conspiracies.
