In a significant development in Telangana’s political landscape, six members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) defected to Congress late last night, marking a major setback for the K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led party.
The defections occurred in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who had just returned from a two-day visit to the national capital. This move adds to the growing list of leaders abandoning BRS following its defeat in the recent assembly polls.
As per the Telangana Legislative Council, BRS now holds 25 seats while Congress will see its strength rise to 10. The council also includes members from AIMIM, BJP, PRTU, an independent member, and four nominated seats, leaving two seats vacant in the 40-member house.
