The ruling NDA in Bihar and the opposition Mahagathbandhan have once again clashed over the contentious demand for special status for the state. This debate, which seems to have gained momentum ahead of the upcoming Parliament budget session, originally arose after the creation of Jharkhand left Bihar devoid of its mineral wealth.
Senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar criticized the BJP-JD(U) coalition for failing to secure special status for Bihar, despite being allies at the Centre. She commented on the irony of the situation, pointing out that the JD(U) passed a resolution seeking either special status or a substantial economic package last month.
Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha of the BJP emphasized the Prime Minister's vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' and assured that all necessary steps for Bihar's development would be taken. Meanwhile, JD(U) and other regional parties, including Lok Janshakti Party, voiced support for special status, while the RJD accused the ruling coalition of misleading the public.
