DMK Leads Strongly in Vikravandi By-Election

The DMK continues to lead in the Vikravandi Assembly by-election. Anniyur Siva of DMK leads with a significant margin over PMK's C Anbumani. The by-election was held due to the death of DMK legislator N Pugazhenthi. AIADMK and DMDK boycotted the election.

The ruling DMK has maintained a strong lead in the Vikravandi Assembly constituency as the vote count from the July 10 by-election continues.

As of the fifth round of vote-counting, Anniyur Siva of the DMK secured 31,151 votes, leading by a margin of 19,668 votes over his closest competitor, Pattali Makkal Katchi's C Anbumani, who received 11,483 votes. The Nam Tamilar Katchi candidate, K Abinaya, stood in third place with 2,275 votes. The vote count started at 8 am, beginning with the postal ballots.

The by-election was necessitated following the death of DMK legislator N Pugazhenthi in April. Notably, the main opposition parties, AIADMK and DMDK, boycotted the by-election. The DMK-led alliance had previously won all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, along with the sole Puducherry seat, in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections.
