Historic Win: Congress Clinches Dehra Assembly Seat

Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, secured a historic win for the Congress in the Dehra Assembly by defeating BJP's Hoshiyar Singh by 9,399 votes. This significant victory is the first for Congress in this seat, which saw 65.42% voter turnout. Celebrations erupted at the Chief Minister's residence.

In a historic win, the Congress clinched the Dehra Assembly seat, with Kamlesh Thakur defeating BJP's Hoshiyar Singh by a margin of 9,399 votes. Thakur's victory marks the first time Congress has secured this seat.

Polling data revealed that out of 86,520 eligible voters, 65.42% cast their ballots. Thakur garnered a total of 32,737 votes while Singh polled 23,338. The three Independent candidates barely made an impact, each receiving fewer than 200 votes.

The Dehra Assembly constituency, established after a 2012 delimitation exercise, has seen various political shifts. Notably, Hoshiyar Singh previously won as an Independent in 2017 and 2022 but later joined BJP. Kamlesh Thakur's victory sparked celebrations at the Chief Minister's residence in Shimla, highlighting its significance for the Congress party.
