BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla cautioned that Congress and the INDI alliance might re-impose emergency if given another chance. He responded to Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut's comments defending the 1975 Emergency and supporting leaders. June 25 is now marked as 'Constitution Murder Day' by the Government.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday warned that if the Congress party and INDI alliance were given another opportunity, they would re-impose emergency across the nation. He criticized the Congress for its past actions and accused them of supporting the idea of an emergency.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut defended the 1975 Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, claiming it was necessary for national security. Raut asserted that even Atal Bihari Vajpayee, if faced with similar circumstances, would have done the same.

The Government of India announced that June 25 will henceforth be commemorated as 'Constitution Murder Day' to remember the imposition of the Emergency. The 1975 Emergency period, marked by political unrest and suppression of civil liberties, ended in 1977 following public backlash and the ruling party's electoral defeat.
