Delhi BJP Protests: Power Surcharge Controversy

Virendra Sachdeva, president of Delhi BJP, announced protests in all 14 districts of Delhi against Power Purchase Agreement Charges (PPAC) and other surcharges inflating electricity bills. Accusing the government and power companies of corrupt practices, Sachdeva called for a judicial inquiry and released a letter to the DERC Chairman demanding intervention.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva announced statewide demonstrations on Sunday to protest against the imposition of Power Purchase Agreement Charges (PPAC) and additional surcharges, which have sharply increased residents' electricity bills.

In a press conference, Sachdeva blamed the Delhi government and power companies for not pre-purchasing electricity for peak demands, forcing consumers to shoulder the financial burden. He called these costs a product of corrupt practices between the Arvind Kejriwal administration and power distributors.

Calling for a judicial inquiry into the issue, Sachdeva noted that PPAC was not included in the approved Business Regulatory Plan for power companies until 2015. Releasing a letter to the Chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), Sachdeva urged intervention regarding excessive surcharges which affect middle-class consumers the most. BJP workers plan to protest outside power distribution company offices in all Delhi districts on Monday.
