Sukhbir Singh Badal, the chief of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), is set to appear before the Akal Takht to respond to allegations made by rebel Akali leaders. This comes after Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh summoned him to provide a written explanation for not representing the sentiments of the Sikh community.
The rebel leaders had previously appeared before the Jathedar and apologized for the mistakes committed during the party's governance from 2007 to 2017. They held Badal accountable for several lapses, including the failure to punish those responsible for the 2015 sacrilege incidents and pardoning Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a 2007 blasphemy case.
Among the prominent rebel leaders are former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, and other party figures. The Akal Takht has asked for a clarification from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee regarding spending Rs 90 lakh on advertisements to justify controversial decisions.
