Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing reservations to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and applauded Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for increasing the annual income limit for the OBC creamy layer to Rs 8 lakh. Shah accused the Congress party of being anti-backward classes, saying former chief minister Bhupinder Hooda only discusses OBC issues when elections are near.
Shah criticized former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi for allegedly opposing OBC reservations. He mentioned that the Kaka Kalelkar Commission and Mandal Commission recommendations were sidelined by Congress governments for years. Shah credited PM Modi with granting constitutional recognition to the OBC Commission and providing 27% reservations in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools, and NEET exams.
Highlighting Haryana's contributions, Shah praised the state for its significant role in national defense, sports, and food security. He called for accountability from Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, challenging him to compare a decade of BJP's governance with Congress's tenure. Shah emphasized BJP's developmental works and assured that his party will continue to focus on the welfare of backward classes and the state's overall progress.
