Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Ranchi on July 20 to strategize for the impending assembly elections. During his itinerary, Shah will address the extended meeting of the Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) executive committee and lay plans for the state assembly elections.
The BJP executive committee meeting, slated to convene at Prabhat Tara Ground around 1 PM, will involve over 25,000 office bearers from the block to the state level. Participants will include officials from all 260 blocks and 27 districts of Jharkhand, alongside morchas, organizations, and state-level leaders. This gathering aims to highlight the BJP's robust organizational structure in Jharkhand. Shah's visit underscores the party's commitment to presenting a united front in the elections.
In preparation for the Jharkhand assembly elections, newly appointed election in-charge Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and co-in-charge Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have been visiting the state almost weekly. They engage with local leaders and workers at various levels. Recently, former Union Minister Anurag Thakur criticized the current state's governance, alleging lack of will to foster investment and development.
During a press interaction in Ranchi, Thakur questioned, "Why do investments not come to Jharkhand? This is because conditions here are ripe for corruption, and there is no will for development or investment." The Hamirpur MP noted that although Jharkhand has existed for over two decades, it hasn't achieved the developmental milestones that were anticipated.
Thakur paid tribute to the land of Birsa Munda, crediting Atal Bihari Vajpayee for realizing the dream of a separate Jharkhand. He said, "It has been more than two decades, and the opportunity to take Jharkhand to great heights was there. However, promises made before coming to power were not fulfilled. Jharkhand's potential remains untapped." In recent elections, the BJP secured eight Lok Sabha seats, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress, and All Jharkhand Students Union Party had mixed results.
In the 2020 Assembly elections, BJP won 25 seats against Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's 30, Congress' 16, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha's three, AJSUP's two, and two seats won by Independents.
