Senator J.D. Vance is seen as the future torchbearer of Donald Trump's MAGA movement. Senator J.D. Vance's appearance at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will mark him as a key figure in the future of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. Many see Trump’s decision to select the 39-year-old, a populist, as his vice-presidential pick as an attempt to ensure the longevity of his political ideology beyond his tenure. If Trump wins the Nov. 5 presidential election, he can serve only until 2029.

Vance’s challenge will be to prove his MAGA credentials and attract voters skeptical of Trump, especially given his initial criticism likening Trump to Adolf Hitler before becoming a staunch supporter. Prominent conservative commentator Erick Erickson believes Vance’s bestselling memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," equips him with the ability to articulate Trump's agenda effectively. Erickson remarked, "J.D. Vance can speak Trump to people who don’t understand Trump."

While the MAGA movement has been a blend of economic populism and media branding focusing on the middle class, Vance has the expertise to refine Trump’s often impulsive policies into a more coherent vision. Despite doubts from Trump critics about the sustainability of the movement without Trump’s charisma, Trump’s supporters, including Carla Sands, believe the movement’s focus on the middle class will sustain its relevance.
