Iran Refutes Assassination Plot Allegations Amid Legal Actions Against Trump

Iran has dismissed accusations regarding plots to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump, while indicating plans for legal action related to the 2020 drone assassination of a top general, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

IRNA cited Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani, who stated that Iran "strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack on Trump or claims about Iran's intent for such an action." Kanaani emphasized, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to pursue legal action against Trump for his direct role in the assassination of Martyr General Qassem Soleimani." Soleimani, who commanded the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad in January 2020.

Additional security was implemented before a campaign rally for Trump following a threat from Iran. However, U.S. officials clarified that the threat was unrelated to any assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.

Iran's ambassador to the U.N., Amir Saeid Iravani, on Tuesday dismissed the accusations against Tehran as "baseless" and "politically motivated."
