Leaders and workers of the ruling Congress on Thursday held celebrations across Telangana over the launch of a crop loan waiver scheme, while the opposition BRS and BJP alleged that the state government was deceiving the farmers.

Congress activists set off crackers and distributed sweets at Gandhi Bhavan, the party's headquarters in Telangana.

PCC Campaign Committee chief Madhu Yashki Goud noted this is the first time a waiver of loans up to Rs two lakh is being implemented through a single payment.

Congress party workers also performed milk 'abhishekam' to the portraits of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

However, BJP National General Secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar expressed skepticism, questioning the adequacy and timing of the loan waivers.

He pointed out the Congress's failure to disburse the promised 'Rythu Bharosa' funds and alleged that the loan waiver is an election gimmick.

Echoing similar sentiments, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao accused the government of diverting funds and leaving farmers in distress.

Despite these allegations, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched the scheme by crediting Rs 6,098 crore in the first phase to the bank accounts of farmers with loans up to Rs one lakh.
