Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has expressed concern over a Muzaffarnagar police directive that requires eateries along the Kanwar yatra route to display the names of their owners. He cautioned that this move could potentially promote untouchability.

Naqvi voiced his concerns on X, referring to the orders as 'hasty' and capable of spreading the 'disease of untouchability.' He emphasized the need to respect faith without encouraging untouchability.

Meanwhile, the BJP, which governs Uttar Pradesh, defended the police order. They argued it helps fasting Hindus identify pure vegetarian restaurants more easily, ensuring they are served Satvik food. Muzaffarnagar Police chief Abhishek Singh reiterated that the measure aims to prevent confusion and maintain law and order during the yatra.
