Thirty congressional Democrats are urging President Joe Biden to end his plans for re-election following his halting debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump. The 81-year-old incumbent's showing has sparked concern among his own party.
These Democrats, representing more than one in ten of their party’s congressional members, have publicly called for Biden to step aside. The party currently holds 213 seats in the House of Representatives and 51 in the Senate.
The list of Democratic lawmakers includes Senators Martin Heinrich (New Mexico), Jon Tester (Montana), and Peter Welch (Vermont), as well as Representatives Earl Blumenauer (Oregon's 3rd district), Ed Case (Hawaii's 1st district), Sean Casten (Illinois's 6th district), Jim Costa (California's 21st district), and others.
