Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, has been announced as the recipient of the first Oommen Chandy Public Servant Award. This recognition has been instituted in memory of Oommen Chandy, the late former Chief Minister of Kerala and a veteran of the party.
The Oommen Chandy Foundation declared the award three days after the first death anniversary of the esteemed leader. The award comprises a monetary prize of Rs one lakh and a specially designed sculpture created by renowned artist and filmmaker Nemom Pushparaj.
According to a statement, Gandhi's role as a national leader who addressed people's issues through the Bharat Jodo Yatra was a significant factor in his selection. An expert jury chaired by Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor made the final decision.
