The Congress on Sunday raised concerns over a purported government order that allegedly removes the ban on government employees participating in activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The authenticity of the order, dated July 9 and issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, remains unconfirmed.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh shared the document on social media, stressing the historical context of the ban imposed in 1966 and questioning its abrupt removal. He cited the ban's origins following Mahatma Gandhi's assassination and highlighted its continuation even during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure.

Another Congress leader, Pawan Khera, emphasized the gravity of this move, indicating that the central government had first implemented the ban 58 years ago. The Modi government, he claimed, has now rescinded this order, raising significant political and ethical concerns.
