DMK MP Tiruchi Siva has harshly criticized the Union Budget 2024, claiming it favors states ruled by parties allied with the BJP. He condemned the budget as being politically biased, alleging indiscriminate fund allocation.

Siva stated, 'This is certainly not a Union Budget and has allocated funds indiscriminately to certain states that favor them and to parties in alliance with them. Despite Tamil Nadu suffering from floods and cyclones, we have received no relief funds.'

Adding to the criticism, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced he would boycott the NITI Aayog meeting. 'Despite winning for the third term, the BJP has done nothing for the people of Tamil Nadu,' he said. 'No funds were allocated to our state even after historic devastation.'

On the other hand, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced substantial financial support for states like Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, which have faced natural calamities. She highlighted significant infrastructure projects and economic support plans.

In her speech, Sitharaman detailed projects for Bihar that include flood control structures and numerous economic initiatives. Andhra Pradesh, too, stands to benefit from special financial aid, aimed at fulfilling commitments under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
