US President Joe Biden will address the nation on Wednesday to explain his decision to withdraw from the presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party's nomination in the November general elections.

Biden, 81, returned to the White House on Tuesday after nearly a week at his Delaware residence, having self-isolated following a positive COVID-19 test while campaigning in Las Vegas.

"Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people," Biden said Tuesday.

During his quarantine, Biden shocked the political landscape on Sunday by announcing via social media that he would not accept the Democratic presidential nomination, endorsing Kamala Harris, 59, as the new nominee instead.

The announcement followed growing concerns about Biden's age and capacity to challenge Republican rival and former president Donald Trump.

"This afternoon, I returned to the Oval Office and received my daily intelligence briefing from my national security team. Serving as your Commander-in-Chief remains the greatest honor of my life," Biden said on X, sharing a photo of his return to the White House.

"It's great to be back at the White House," he added.

This will be Biden's second national address this month, following a July 14 speech addressing the failed assassination attempt on Trump.
